Deafening Silence

WAR MEMORIAL / RECORDING STUDIO

Deafening Silence is built upon a parallel, a duality of the ravages of war and human kind on nature. On one side of the site is an industrialised city, with unchecked growth and care for nature. On the other side, land remains untouched by the stains of humanity, pure in its quality.

Individuals are denied access to the sanctuary that graces the northern side of the river, believing that they are crossing to the abundance of greenery and life. However, they are led on a journey that brutally showcases the crux of war, and redirected and shunned back to the industrialised cityscape, to live another day in the humdrum of urban monotony.

Individuals are led through a series of rooms found within the trench of the northern cliff side, exploring the experiences of war through different experiential qualities of water. Individuals then make their way back to the other side, stopping at a point of reflection, before their journey ends with a narrowing path that ends in a single fateful step.
